Web Design & Content

Wendy-Wheeler.com Personal Website
Let the tour begin with this website! The art, icons, backgrounds, etc. you see were all designed by me. The coding of the site and the javascript was done by the amazing Bianca Bickford. The tools I used included Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, BBEdit, Claris HomePage, MS Word, Quark Express, and SimpleText. A few of the finer points about my web design:
  • The information is organized so you have something to start reading as the rest of the page loads.
  • This page uses meta tags, whose keywords let me control how my page is handled by the web search engines (Infoseek, Lycos, Java, ...) and to automatically keep me relisted with certain Web-bots.
  • The graphics mostly have ALT tags, and no frames or ASPs were used to be more friendly to those folks who use text-only browsers.
  • The large graphics are all interlaced, and usually low-resolution versions load first to give you something to watch while the page loads.
PlanView.com Corporate Website
  • Visit Planview.com
  • This is the 4th or 5th revamp of my employer PlanView's corporate site that I've done. This latest version I just had major input, but others mostly repurposed my content. Typically I would architect the site navigation, write all copy, and direct it. We use web design companies to produce the site.
  • My first major revamp took the interesting but confusing site and made it clear what industry we were in (project management), what the unique features of the software were, and offered a free CD demo on each page via clicking an animated banner.
  • After my first revamp, leads from the website went from an average of 20 to an average of 350 per month. YES!!
MyPlanview.com Community Portal
  • Visit Myplanview.com
  • In June of 2000, PlanView decided to build a community portal around the login for our ASP. I wrote the project charter and designed, directed, and wrote the content of the site for MyPlanView.com. Later I contracted content to an experience tech writer, Emily Vander Veer.
  • This site is not a corporate marketing website (above), but a source for information for project managers and professional services staff. With expert articles and other content refreshed weekly, it was more of an eZine.
  • Goodness from this site: people searching the web for education on areas where PlanView excels--portfolio management, project cost accounting, resource capacity planning, aligning IT with business strategies--found this site by the thousands. At last count, it averaged over 4800 visits per month.
